Due to it being an international weekend, there’s a limited schedule in Major League Soccer.  Vancouver Whitecaps FC (15W-6D-10D, 51 points) will be in action, however, traveling to Harrison, New Jersey, USA, for a match against the New York Red Bulls (12-7-12, 43).  With a win, Whitecaps FC can extend its lead atop the Western Conference table to seven points over the second-place Portland Timbers (13-8-11, 47).

A state of emergency declared due to Tropical Storm Nate means that this weekend’s Costa Rican Invierno matches have been postponed.

First-place Alianza (7-4-0, 25) will look to remain unbeaten in the Salvadoran Apertura, when it hosts ninth-place Sonsonate (2-5-4, 11) on Sunday.  In six home games, the Albos have scored 16 goals, five more than its nearest competitor.

There’s only one game on the schedule this weekend, as 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League finalist Olimpia (4-3-2, 15) will visit last-place Platense (2-1-5, 7) on Saturday.  The Leones sit fourth in the Honduran Apertura, riding a three-match unbeaten streak.

The Liga MX Apertura takes a break until Wednesday, when fifth-place Toluca (5-4-2, 19) hosts ninth-place Lobos BUAP (4-2-5, 14).

The weekend’s big match-up takes place on Sunday as third-place Diriangen (5-6-2, 21) hosts first-place Real Esteli (10-1-2, 31).  Keep an eye on Diriangen, which is unbeaten in its last six games (3-3-0).

While everybody was concentrating on the battle between Arabe Unido and Plaza Amador for the top spot in the Panamanian Apertura, Tauro FC (6-6-1, 24) has quietly climbed the table.  Los Toros de Pedregal have moved into second place, trailing first-place Arabe (6-7-0, 25) by a single point.  By the end of the weekend, Tauro could top the table if results go its way, but for that to happen possibly, a win over last-place Santa Gema (1-4-8, 7) is mandatory.

It will be a big weekend in the TT Pro League with two games between the top four teams.  On Saturday, the first-place North East Stars (7-3-1, 24) hosts fourth-place Defence Force (4-3-4, 15), while second-place DirecTV W Connection (7-2-2, 23) visits third-place Club Sando (5-3-3, 18) a day later.

There’s an abbreviated schedule in Major League Soccer this weekend, but the New York Red Bulls (12-7-12, 43) – sixth place in the Eastern Conference – will have an opportunity to snap its eight-game winless streak, when it hosts Western Conference table-topper Vancouver Whitecaps FC (15-6-10, 51) on Saturday.  The Red Bulls have conceded three goals or more in three straight matches.
